Thanksgiving & the ER

What's a holiday without a trip to the ER!? I'll post more on our weekend later (M&D Field are here and we've been pretty busy!).

On Thanksgiving day - just about the time I was planning to go into the bathroom to finish doing my hair, I hear a blood-curling scream. Olivia and Dave come into the kitchen and Olivia will NOT stop crying. Dave thinks she is just playing me for my sympathy- but I think something is really wrong. Normally, Olivia is pretty tough - and this cry was different.

She kept saying her arm hurt, pointing to her elbow. Asking for a bandaid. Screaming. Loudly. Screaming. The kind where spit is coming from your mouth and tears are washing your face. So - we put on a bandaid - (just in case she WAS trying to get attention). More screaming. Then ice. Then I sat with her and she started to calm down, but would not bend or move her arm. And each time I moved just a little bit, the screaming would start all over again. I was afraid something was fractured or broken. After about 15 minutes we decided to head to the ER. More screaming.

Luckily - she only had a dislocated elbow - nothing serious - and amazingly easy to "pop" back into place. And immediately she was out of pain and back to her old self. What a relief!!

Oh - how did this happen? The doctor asked "how did this happen" and Olivia points to Dave and says "Daddy did it". Nice. Now we look like child abusers. Really, this all happened when Dave was spinning her - holding her by the wrists. So - if you have little ones - be careful - according to the doctor this this is a very common injury.

We were home within an hour and the Cushings were already here helping to get Thanksgiving dinner ready! Dinner was awesome, everyone had fun, and you would never know that Olivia had been through such a tramatic experience a few hours earlier!
