Today Olivia got to celebrate her bday at school. She took rainbow goldfish crackers to school to share for a snack, and later, Dave and I stopped by with Apple Cider. Both were her specific requests. The class has a beautiful celebration, called the Sun Ceremony. They light candles for the number of years, then Olivia held a small globe, the earth, and walked around the "sun". The children say "The earth went around the sun, and Olivia turned 1". Then Dave & I got to share what Olivia was doing when she turned 1. That would be walking! Then "The earth went around the sun, and Olivia turned 2". Dave shared that she started playing really well with Isabel around 2. Then again for 3. After that we sang happy birthday, and Olivia got to pass out the apple cider to each child. She was so happy and excited to serve everyone their drink! The whole thing was great!
Tonight we will be having pancakes for dinner, followed by cupcakes with pink frosting. YUMM.
She's such a joy to have in my life. I'm so grateful to be her mother.
Here she is on the 1st day of her life (check out Dave's hair - that's what happens when you fly in from New York at the last minute and take Tylenol PM AFTER your wife tells you that the baby is going to come):
