**WARNING - these pictures are NOT PRETTY**
The Dr. says it looks worse than it is. I think it looks pretty bad. I have NEVER seen HIVES like the ones that Jack has. He is swollen and black & blue. We don't know if it is from:
1. Allergice reaction to amoxicillin
2. Response to viral infection (he has elevated white count and fever)
3. Reaction to 12 mo. vaccines (both Drs. have said they highly doubt this)
SO - we don't know the cause. The issue at hand is how to get rid of the HIVES. Today he had a shot of Epinephrine, a shot of a steriod, and Zyrtec while at the Dr.'s office. He also received a prescription for Pediapred, which is a steroid.
Nothing like revving up a 1 year old on steroids - especially a kid like Jack, who already has a ton of energy!
To complicate things, he now has a fever and seems to be getting sick.
He also had an x-ray to rule out pnemonia today. The device an infant sits in to have a chest x-ray is like a torture chamber, I felt so horrible holding him in it!
I'm trying not to worry. The Dr. today said that he's seen this before, that this is not life-threatening and that hopefully we've seen the worst. I'm sure I'll be calling again in the morning to ask more questions.
Please say a little prayer for Jack-Sprat.
I can't imagine what it would be like to have a child who is chronically sick - it would be so terrible.
