I didn't think that I'd have a hard time sending the girls off to school today - in fact, I've been looking forward to it for a few weeks now! We dropped Lucy off first and that was easy - she is in a familiar place with friends and people she loves to be around. Next, we went to Isa's school, parked, and walked to the 1st grade line. We said HI to her teacher and she got in line. She wasn't sad, or crying - just taking it all in - looking kind of vulnerable (to me), waiting in line. I gave her a kiss and stepped off to the side, where she could see me, but be in line by herself. After about 1 min. I went back to her to talk to the other mothers and kids in the line. She was just quiet and contemplative. As they walked into school, I felt the tears well up and I turned to Dave who had a smile on his face. He was feeling like me, proud, happy, sad. Isa, the little peanut who came to the world early and observant......as my mom said....she either drives you crazy or she breaks (melts) your heart!
So - now it is 1:00pm and Jack is asleep and I can work on my pictures and watch an episode of Melrose and wait for the kids to come home! Isn't that how it works? You can't wait to get rid of them and then you can't wait to get them back!!!
p.s. I can no longer be held accountable for their choice in clothing or accessories. They were both very EXCITED about their new shoes. Why they had to add the socks, I don't know.......
