UPDATE: Dave got it!!! YEAH!! My hero, the bat-catcher.
I KNEW it, I KNEW it, I KNEW it. We have a bat. Last night I was watching TV in our room and saw something small and black flying....AHHHHH...for those of you who know me, you know that I am deathly afraid of bats. So - I burried myself under the covers for about 10 minutes, catching my breath and calming myself down, and praying that Dave would walk through the door and rescue me. No such luck. I mean, it's only 12:30am on a weekday night - why would he be home already?
So - I bravely poke my head out and look around...nothing. So it must have been my imagination. Right? Wrong. There it is AGAIN! AHHHHHHHH...back under the covers. For a LONG time. What to do? Make a break for the phone right next to where the bat is???? Make a break for the stairs to the phone in the living room? Make a break to my car to sit in there until it is safe? I finally take myself downstairs, looking like a ghost in the comforter and grab the phone and dive onto the couch and under the covers again. I call Dave and tell him to GET HOME NOW. He brings a drunk intern with him (as Dave is the designated driver). So - they are armed with a shovel and a large plastic 7-11 cup. They disapper upstairs and bang around for a long time. And come down empty-handed. Which isn't what I wanted to see! They think I'm crazy. I lock myself in the guest bedroom and don't come out until morning.
Throughout the day I think perhaps it was all in my mind. Tonight when I got home I find out that it has been SPOTTED. By Isabel - who is happy that there is a "black bird" in the house. While I'm not happy it is here, I'm glad that I'm not crazy AND I'm hoping Dave will get it.
Dave has just gone upstairs with his hat, gloves and a flashlight - he says he is venturing into the dormers/eaves of the house. Is he nuts? I'm grateful I have someone who isn't afraid, like I am.
Please hope that he finds that thing so I can relax again. Otherwise, it will be another sleepless night locked in the guest room. The girls can fend for themselves! They are naive enough to think it is cool to have the bird in the house.
I hear banging upstairs. Time for me to take cover.

Oh my! You're welcome to come and stay us until you're 'bat free'! They really are pretty harmless creatures, even if they are UGLY! :)
I would think the intern would have been able to "scare" the bat out of hiding...
Talk to Adam about bat killing. I believe he has at least 10 confirmed kills. A good swing with a broom is all it takes. A good cat would get that bat for you! Miss you.
